Shortly after arriving in San Francisco in 2011, we knew we had found our new "home."  We look forward to welcoming you to the Bay Area and hope you'll find time to enjoy some of the offerings we are blessed by each day- whether the delicious food and wine, the outdoor activities, or the cultural offerings (did we mention food and wine yet?)- we're sure you'll have a great time in our home.

FOOD & WINE

Many of our favorite food spots are in Marin County:

  • Sol Food- Puerto Rican- San Rafael  (usually long lines- so go early)
  • Sushi 69- Sushi- San Anselmo
  • Good Earth- co-op grocery store- San Anselmo
  • Terrapin Crossroads- locally sourced California cuisine and music venue (owned by former Grateful Dead member)
  • Two Bird Cafe- cosy rustic cafe- San Geronimo
  • Tomales Bay Oyster Company- Marshall- eat oysters right from the bay; BBQs available
  • Best Lil' Porkshouse- San Rafael (San Rafael is better than the Corte Madera location)- amazing BBQ- prepare to eat with your hands

Our favorite wineries:

  • Frog's Leap- Rutherford- bio-dynamic farming; big lawn and lots of vegetable gardens to walk (good for kids) you will need a reservation; tell them we sent you (we got engaged here)
  • Miner Family- Napa- amazing pinot noirs
  • Selby- Healdsburg- woman-owned (sadly that's unusual); great price point
  • Benziger- Glen Elllen- biodynamic and organic; largest of our favorites; great for introduction to wine
  • Iron Horse- Sebastapol- specializes in sparkling wines and gorgeous views
  • Taft Street- Sebastapol- small family operation; bocce out back!
  • David Cofarro- Geyserville- quirky family spot; owner is quite the "character"; non standard varietals to explore

The Bay Area is famous for its micro climates.  In the summer those micro climates can be quite severe, especially as one travels from the city to Marin (and further away).  The key to comfort is adaptability through LAYERS.  Mother nature gives Bay Area residents and visitors the Marine Layer, and pros respond with clothing layers.

For those considering road trips and adventures during your stay in California, we recommend packing the following items you might not otherwise think about:
